Gabriel Lau (b. 1986, Toronto), better known by the pseudonym ‘LABEG’, is a Hong Kong-based artist and designer known for his distinctive paper and cardboard sculptures of watches and other luxury objects. A product designer by training, Labeg’s journey as a watch artist began as a creative outlet expressing his passion for luxury watches, reinterpreting watches that were complex and unattainable through paper and pencil, then soon after elevated his art works with mixed

medium, in what would become his signature offbeat style. His paper luxury watch collection quickly garnered widespread acclaim: Labeg’s reimagined Patek Philippes, Audemars Piguets and Rolexes pay homage to the spirit and essence of iconic watch design with their meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship, whilst their quirky, uneven appearance animates their features with inimitable character and originality. Playing with the boundaries between ‘high’ and ‘low’ art, Labeg’s perfectly imperfect creations have resonated across the worlds of fine watchmaking, high-end fashion and contemporary art. Labeg’s work has been profiled internationally in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, Hypebeast, Hodinkee, Revolution, Tatler and Financial Times to name a few. He has also collaborated with brands such as H Moser & Cie., Ulysse Nardin, Urban Jurgensen and Gerald Charles.
